ABOUT ST. MARY’S MIHAYO HIGH SCHOOL

St. Mary’s Mihayo Secondary School is a Catholic secondary school committed to providing quality education in a supportive, disciplined and morally grounded environment.

Our school is dedicated to nurturing students’ academic potential, talents, character and spiritual growth. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

St. Mary’s Mihayo Secondary School is a faith based Catholic School owned by the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Tabora. It was established in 1929 as central school known as St. Mary’s School. It was planned for pupils from different places in supplementary to colonial government schools which were found in Tabora region namely Tabora school (Now Tabora Boys and Tabora Girls secondary schools). St. Mary’s school was founded as a result of government appeal to religious institutions to take part in providing education to local children.

The initial objective of starting the school was to educate local children from the locality who could not secure admission in the government aided schools which were for sons and daughters of chiefs. 

Among the teachers of St. Mary’s Central school was Mwl. Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1945 – 1948), who became the first president of Tanzania (1961 – 1985). 

In 1970s the school was nationalized by the government and became Mihayo primary school until 1984 when was claimed back by the late Archbishop Mario.A. Mgulunde and it became to known as Mihayo Secondary school. In 9th April 1985 the first 70 students were enrolled and the school started with a total number of 4 teachers. The school was registered as a business school on 13/5/1988, with the registration No. S.314 for boys and girls from Form one to Form Six. It's Examination number is S.0513. 

Now the school offers Business education, Science, Social Scinence studies and Computer Science with the following combinations: (EBuAc, EGM, HGE, HGK, HGL, HKL, DKL, PCB, CBG and PCM).

Today, St. Mary’s Mihayo Secondary School continues this rich legacy by combining quality education with Catholic values, discipline, prayer, hard work and moral formation. The school's identity is reflected in its commitment to education as a foundation for responsible and successful lives many young men and women.

Catholic Mass & Spiritual Activities

Every firday students gather on the basis of their faith backrounds for prayer and instruction from their spiritual leaders.
